A domestic dispute that had been simmering for days culminated in the tragic death of 24-year-old Jaida Perdue, a female resident of Kansas City, Missouri. On July 15, 2025, just before noon, police were summoned to an apartment in the 8700 block of Countryshire Lane, where they discovered Perdue with a fatal gunshot wound to her head. Emergency medical responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
The circumstances leading to the fatal shooting began with a series of arguments between
Perdue and the father of her children, Marcus M. Williams. The conflict escalated on the morning of her death when Williams attempted to leave their apartment with a handgun. Perdue reportedly objected, stating that since she had purchased the firearm for him, he could not take it. This led to a physical struggle over the weapon.
During the altercation, Williams was on a FaceTime call with a witness who reported hearing a gunshot, followed by the sounds of screaming and children crying. According to Williams’ account to investigators, he and Perdue wrestled over the firearm for a couple of minutes before it discharged. He claimed his finger must have inadvertently been on the trigger and that Perdue had fallen backward and was trying to get up when she was shot. After the shooting, Williams stated that he called 911 and attempted to apply pressure to Perdue's wound.
Responding officers found Williams at the apartment door asking for help. A subject of interest was taken into custody at the scene. Marcus M. Williams was subsequently arrested and has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with Perdue’s death. He is being held in the Jackson County Jail with a bond set at $200,000.
