In the late morning of February 7, 2026, a burst of violence shattered the lunchtime calm at a Church's Chicken on East Princess Anne Road in Norfolk, Virginia. Gunshots rang out, leaving two people wounded and a community in shock. Among the victims was 47-year-old Sherod S. Rogers.
Responding officers arrived at the scene around 11:50 a.m. to find Rogers and a 53-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
While the woman's injuries were not considered life-threatening and she was expected to recover, Rogers succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly. Police identified 32-year-old Larry L. Jackson of Hampton as the suspect. He was arrested and is now facing a string of serious charges, including second-degree murder, malicious wounding, robbery, grand larceny, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Jackson is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond. While an arrest has been made, authorities have not yet released a motive or further details about the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
