In the early morning hours of July 2, 2016, a sense of unease settled over the 1100 block of Church Street in Norfolk, Virginia. A call came in to emergency dispatchers just after 2:30 a.m. about a possible gunshot victim, shattering the quiet of the night. When police arrived at the scene near Princess Anne Road, they discovered 22-year-old Daquan Anthony Martin inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound.
