In the early morning hours of July 16, 2014, the life of 35-year-old Dajuan Glover was tragically cut short in Norfolk, Virginia. Responding to a call of shots fired at 4:44 a.m., police arrived at the intersection of Jason Avenue and Hancock Avenue to a grim scene. Glover was found lying on the grass, having sustained between sixteen and twenty-three gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response, he did not survive his injuries.
Forensic analysis later determined that three distinct firearms, two. 40 caliber handguns and one 9mm handgun, were used in the commission of the crime.
The investigation into Glover's death moved swiftly, leading to the apprehension of three suspects. The first to be arrested, just a day after the shooting, was Kareem Turner, then 26 years old. This was not Turner's first encounter with law enforcement, as he had previously been accused and later cleared of the 2010 murder of an off-duty Norfolk police officer. Shortly after, a second suspect, 29-year-old Roy Turner, was taken into custody and charged with murder and robbery. The final arrest came with the help of U.S. Marshals, who apprehended 24-year-old Joshua R. Wood. He faced charges of second-degree murder and weapons violations.
The legal process brought convictions for all three men involved in Dajuan Glover's murder. In June of the year following the incident, a jury recommended a sentence of 42 years in prison for Kareem Turner, a sentence that was formally imposed by a judge in September 2016. Both Joshua R. Wood and Roy Turner were also convicted on murder charges for their roles in the fatal shooting. The resolution of the case brought a measure of justice for a violent act that ended a man's life far too soon.
