On New Year's Day in Northeast Philadelphia, a violent confrontation cut short the life of 52-year-old Luis Colon. The fatal incident, which also resulted in the death of 21-year-old Quadir Tull, unfolded on the morning of January 1, 2026, on the 7100 block of Oakland Street. The chaos began when a group of people arrived at Colon's home to confront his stepdaughter about her ex-boyfriend.
The dispute quickly escalated from a verbal argument to a physical assault on the front lawn, where
Colon's wife and stepdaughter were attacked. When Luis Colon attempted to intervene to protect his family, he was pushed away by Tull and another man, Tyriq Williams. Both Tull and Williams then reportedly drew firearms. In response, Colon also armed himself, leading to a shootout. In the exchange of gunfire, Colon was struck multiple times in the chest. He was rushed to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly before noon. Tull also sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital. A third man, aged 21, was wounded in the hand.
Following the deadly encounter, the suspects fled the scene in a dark-colored Chrysler 300. This vehicle was later seen arriving at Temple University Hospital with two of the gunshot victims. An investigation into the triple shooting led to the arrests of 44-year-old Cara Williams-Reeves and 21-year-old Tyriq Williams. Both have since been charged with murder and other related offenses for their alleged roles in the deaths of Luis Colon and Quadir Tull.
Luis Colon, born in Wilmington, Delaware, and raised in West Chester, Pennsylvania, was remembered for his generosity and willingness to help anyone in need. A passionate fan of the 49ers, he had a talent for working with his hands, particularly in restoring cars. His greatest love, however, was his grandchildren. He is survived by his two daughters, his girlfriend, several siblings, and his grandchildren.
