In the late morning of Friday, November 1, 2019, tragedy struck in a South Philadelphia neighborhood. William Gantz III, a 33-year-old Black male, was seated in the driver's seat of his white 2019 Mazda on the 2100 block of Jackson Street. It was there that he was ambushed in a hail of gunfire. The unexpected violence of the attack left him with multiple gunshot wounds.
Philadelphia Police officers responded to the scene at approximately 11:50 a.m.
to find Gantz in his vehicle, gravely wounded. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the location, but despite their efforts, Gantz's injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The bullets had struck him in the jaw, chest, and stomach, leaving no chance for survival.
