On the evening of May 1, 2023, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Philadelphia Police officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 900 block of South 5th Street, located in the Queen Village neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered 35-year-old Lyron Ruffin lying in a parking lot, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body. Officers immediately transported him to Jefferson Hospital, where he was listed in extremely critical condition.
Despite the medical team's efforts, Ruffin succumbed to his injuries on May 15, 2023, two weeks after the shooting. The incident was subsequently classified as a homicide.
In the aftermath of the shooting, authorities recovered a firearm at the scene. However, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with Ruffin's death. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to investigate the case and urges anyone with information to come forward.
