On a Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia, the discovery of a body marked the tragic end to a young life. Marquan Kellam, a 25-year-old Black male, was found deceased on April 16, 2022. His body, concealed by a blanket, was located in the street adjacent to the CSX railroad tracks on the 5600 block of Newtown Avenue. When Philadelphia Police officers arrived at approximately 1:47 p.m., it was determined that Kellam had been shot multiple times, including in the head and back. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators have pieced together a grim narrative of Kellam's final hours, believing he was killed at a different location before his body was left on Newtown Avenue. The investigation revealed that after his death, Kellam's body had been subjected to further trauma; there were several cuts on his calves, thighs, and legs. In what was likely an attempt to erase any incriminating evidence, bleach had been poured over his body. Adding a layer of complexity to the case, a significant amount of cash, totaling $3,500, was found in his pocket, suggesting that robbery was not the motive for his murder. It was also noted by authorities that Kellam had no prior criminal record.
The case remains an active and unsolved homicide investigation. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the murder of Marquan Kellam. One witness has come forward, reporting that they saw a suspect dressed in black clothing with a black mask, who allegedly pointed a firearm at them. This witness also reported hearing three gunshots as they fled the scene.
