In the early morning hours of Saturday, January 28, 2023, Maison Hernandez, a 23-year-old Hispanic male from Philadelphia, was found lifeless in a parking lot in the city's Crescentville neighborhood. Philadelphia Police officers responded to a call at 6:32 a.m. and discovered Hernandez on the ground in the 5600 block of Rising Sun Avenue. Medical personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced him deceased.
According to his mother, Sandra Hernandez, Maison had been at an after-hours party
with friends prior to his death. She believes an argument may have occurred during the night. As he was walking to his car, he was shot in the back of the head. His family remembers him as a man who loved to dance, cherished his family, and held aspirations of one day opening his own business.
The family has been struck by gun violence before, having lost Maison's 17-year-old cousin to a hit-and-run driver just eight months prior. In the wake of Maison's death, his family and friends gathered for a candlelight vigil, pleading for an end to the violence in their community and urging anyone with information to come forward.
As of now, the investigation into Maison Hernandez's murder is ongoing. The Philadelphia Police Department has not yet identified a suspect or a definitive motive for the shooting, and no arrests have been made. Authorities are asking for the public's help and have encouraged anyone with information to contact them.
