Darryl Singleton, aged 24, was tragically murdered on September 13, 2016, in Southwest Philadelphia. He was shot multiple times in the head, neck, and torso, behind his childhood home on Hoffman Street. Responding officers found him severely injured, and he was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. The incident occurred just a day before what would have been his 25th birthday.
Despite investigations, no arrests have been made, and Darryl’s case remains unsolved, with a reward being offered for information that could lead to an arrest.
Darryl was deeply loved by his family, and his life was marked by positive aspirations and community involvement. He attended Freire Charter School and later participated in activities like a two-week CSI camp associated with Johns Hopkins University, demonstrating a curiosity for learning. At the time of his death, Darryl was in the process of training to become an emergency medical technician (EMT) through All-State Career School in Delaware County, with plans to start clinicals soon. His mother, Trina Singleton, shared that Darryl enjoyed helping people, and believed becoming an EMT was a natural calling for him.
Darryl’s family described him as the connector who held everyone together. He was a family person who cherished spending time with his relatives, including his younger brothers. He had even fulfilled childhood dreams like getting a dog, which became part of his family for many years. Darryl’s passing left a deep void in his community and among those who knew him. His mother has since found solace by connecting with other mothers of homicide victims, supporting each other in the shared pursuit of justice. A service was held for Darryl at the Southwest Philadelphia Seventh-Day Adventist Church, and he was laid to rest at Mount Lawn Cemetery in Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania. His family continues to hope for answers and justice for his untimely death.
