In the evening hours of a Monday in West Philadelphia, 22-year-old Hakim Zaboor was out walking his pit bull puppy on the 300 block of North Horton Street, a familiar routine for the young man who lived on that same block. The quiet street was shattered by the sound of a single gunshot. Zaboor was struck once in the head.
First responders found him unresponsive on the sidewalk and rushed him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at 7:34 p.m.
His dog was later found on the front porch of a nearby home, waiting for an owner who would never return.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the motive remained a mystery to investigators. Philadelphia police had no suspects and no description to release to the public. As of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the sudden and violent end to Hakim Zaboor's life.
