In the early moments of a Tuesday morning, on May 13, 2014, the life of 22-year-old Williams McCutchen was tragically cut short on the streets of his own neighborhood. A Black male, McCutchen resided on the 1400 block of South 17th Street in Philadelphia, the same area that would become the scene of the violence that claimed him.
Just after midnight, at approximately 12:08 a.m., Philadelphia Police officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of South 17th Street following reports of a
shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Williams McCutchen suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. In a critical effort to save his life, the officers transported him in their patrol vehicle to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Despite the swift actions of the police and the dedicated efforts of the medical personnel at the hospital, McCutchen’s injuries proved to be too severe. He succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead later that day. The investigation into his death remains open, and the Philadelphia Police Department continues to seek information from the public that could lead to an arrest. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified or taken into custody in connection with the murder of Williams McCutchen.
