On the evening of December 16, 2025, violence erupted at an apartment complex in the Maryvale area of Phoenix, Arizona. Around 7:03 p.m., officers from the Phoenix Police Department responded to emergency calls reporting gunfire near 6900 West Indian School Road, close to the intersection of 67th Avenue. Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement officials discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victims were identified as a woman and a 20-year-old male named Jacob Higadera.
First responders immediately provided aid and transported both victims to a local hospital for urgent medical treatment. While the woman survived the incident, she remained in the hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. Tragically, Higadera succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at the medical facility. Preliminary information released during the initial stages of the inquiry suggested that the shooting may have stemmed from a robbery, though detectives continued to work through the night to establish a definitive motive.

Before his untimely death, Higadera was a resident of the area and had graduated from La Joya High School in Avondale, where he was noted for being the only freshman to make the Varsity Football Team. He worked as a manager at a Blue Beacon Truck Wash and was known for his dedication to his family and his girlfriend. He left behind a large family, including his mother, stepfather, and numerous siblings, who prepared to hold visitation services for him in Avondale shortly after the tragedy.
