In the quiet early morning hours of November 19, 2025, in Greenville, South Carolina, the life of 24-year-old Maria Esperansa Rico was tragically cut short in a hail of gunfire at her Henderson Street home. At approximately 1 a.m., multiple calls flooded into 911 dispatchers, reporting a barrage of gunshots in the neighborhood. When Greenville County Sheriff's deputies arrived, they discovered a scene of violence, with at least 30 bullet holes riddling the front of Rico's residence and a parked
car outside. Inside, they found Maria, who had been struck by at least one of the bullets that tore through her home. She was pronounced dead at the scene, her death later ruled a homicide by the county coroner. Several other people were in the house at the time of the shooting, but none of them were physically harmed.
Investigators quickly determined that the shots were fired from outside the residence, turning their focus to a drive-by shooting. The investigation revealed that the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute involving a relative of Rico and the suspects. It is believed that an altercation had occurred at another location earlier, leading the suspects to Rico's home. She was not the intended target of the violence. The investigation led to the arrest of three men in connection with her murder: 25-year-old Christopher Robin Jimenez, 22-year-old Angel Gabriel Jimenez-Jimenez, and 20-year-old Alexandro Galloway. All three were charged with murder and conspiracy.
In addition to the murder charges, Jimenez-Jimenez and Galloway also faced charges of possession of a weapon during a violent crime. A fourth individual, 18-year-old Brandon Isac Castro Baca, was later arrested and charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly providing misleading information to authorities regarding the firearm used in the shooting. The swift arrests brought some measure of progress to a case that had shaken the community, leaving behind a grieving family and a neighborhood stunned by the sudden and senseless violence that claimed a young woman's life.
