In the early morning hours of April 8, 2017, the life of 25-year-old Yolanda Dillard was tragically cut short in Greenville, South Carolina. A native of Greenville, Ms. Dillard was a mother of two, a son and a daughter, and worked in home health care. She was born to Shomeka D. Dillard and Terone Gordon and was a former student of the Greenville County public school system.
The fatal incident unfolded at a Spinx gas station on White Horse Road.
Greenville County deputies responded to calls about a disturbance and gunshots at the location around 2 a.m. Upon their arrival, the scene was clear of any altercation, but they discovered shell casings in the vicinity. Shortly thereafter, deputies were flagged down at a nearby QuikTrip on White Horse Road at Grove Road. In a private vehicle at that location was Yolanda Dillard, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. She was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries at 8:05 a.m. The Greenville County Coroner's Office later confirmed that her death was the result of the gunshot wound.
The investigation into Ms. Dillard's death led to the arrest of Shacorey Shaquion Jeter of Greenville. He was charged with murder, discharging a firearm into a vehicle, and possession of a gun during the commission of a violent crime. A judge subsequently denied bond for the murder charge but set a $20,000 bond for the weapon-related charges. The authorities continued their investigation into the circumstances that led to the shooting, urging anyone with information to come forward.
