On the night of October 28, 2025, Selma police were called to the George Washington Carver Homes complex around 8 p.m. for reports of a gunshot victim. Officers found Sharod Reid, a 31-year-old male, with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds, and despite lifesaving efforts, he died at the scene. The killing occurred near the public housing community commonly known as GWC Homes and was reported the next day as the city’s 11th homicide of the year.
