Warren George Stewart III, 36, a Black male from Austin, was shot late on the night of June 6, 2025, in the 9800 block of Halifax Drive in northeast Austin. At approximately 10:28 p.m., a 911 call for help brought Austin-Travis County EMS to the home, where the caller—later identified as Stewart’s younger brother—led first responders to Warren lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.
Police were summoned to the scene; lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at 11:09 p.m. The City of Austin later noted the case as the city’s 28th homicide of the year.
Detectives determined the brothers had been living together, and the younger brother, 31-year-old Tevin Stewart, told officers he had shot Warren before calling for help. Tevin was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Local coverage reported that he remained in the Travis County Correctional Complex on a $75,000 bond following the arrest.
