Mohammed Nasser, a 32-year-old man, was found dead in the stairwell of a North Austin apartment complex on November 4, 2021. The Austin Police Department received a call at around 7:30 a.m. reporting a man shot at the complex located at 601 W. St. Johns Ave. When officers and Austin-Travis County EMS arrived, they found Mohammed Nasser with obvious trauma to his body. Despite life-saving measures, Nasser succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after.
The Travis County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy on November 5 and ruled the cause of death as a gunshot wound, with the manner of death being homicide.
The investigation into Mohammed Nasser's death led to the identification and arrest of a suspect. Joseph Tedder, a 22-year-old man, was arrested in connection with the shooting. A warrant was issued for Tedder on November 24, and he was apprehended on December 22 in Pittsburgh, PA, following a shoplifting incident. Tedder was located at a residence with the assistance of the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office and taken into custody without incident. He was subsequently booked into the Alleghany County Jail.
The case of Mohammed Nasser's murder is part of a broader context of rising homicides in Austin, with his death being the 78th homicide of 2021. The APD continues to investigate the incident, and detectives have urged anyone with information or video of the incident to come forward.
