On October 14, 2024, at approximately 7:18 a.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a call reporting two unresponsive individuals with gunshot wounds in a vehicle at 1805 Burton Drive in southeast Austin. Upon arrival, officers discovered 27-year-old Francis Kaina Anseume Corredor and 19-year-old Bryan Florentino Flores Alvarez deceased inside the vehicle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by 8:00 a.m.
Surveillance footage from the apartment complex captured a silver SUV, identified as a Mitsubishi Outlander belonging to 31-year-old Sherles Machado-Hernandez, arriving at the location around 3:25 a.m. The video shows Machado-Hernandez approaching the victims' vehicle and opening the passenger door. Investigators determined that Machado-Hernandez, the common-law husband of Anseume Corredor, fatally shot both victims before fleeing the scene in his vehicle.
Anseume Corredor was the mother of three children, two of whom she shared with Machado-Hernandez. Following the discovery of the homicides, the children were initially unaccounted for, prompting APD to issue an Amber Alert. Shortly after the alert was disseminated, family members reported that Machado-Hernandez had dropped off the children with his brother before fleeing in a different vehicle. The children were found safe, and Child Protective Services took over their care.
APD, in collaboration with the Department of Public Safety and other units, tracked Machado-Hernandez to a location in north Austin. He was apprehended without incident during a traffic stop in the 900 block of Fairfield Drive. Machado-Hernandez was subsequently booked into the Travis County Jail on charges of capital murder.
This incident marked Austin's 51st and 52nd homicides of 2024. APD continues to investigate and urges anyone with additional information to contact their tip line or submit information anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
