Chivalos Lockett, a 23-year-old man, was shot and killed on January 18, 2025, at a gas station in Downtown Austin. Officers responded to reports of a possible shooting at a Citgo gas station on 717 E. Seventh St. around 3 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Lockett unresponsive in the passenger seat of a black vehicle in the parking lot. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:25 a.m.
Authorities identified 25-year-old Zion Singleton as a suspect in
the case. Singleton was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder. Investigators reported that Singleton had been sitting in the vehicle for some time before Lockett entered the passenger seat, at which point Singleton allegedly shot him. Crime scene specialists and homicide detectives noted that Singleton is affiliated with a gang and was not legally permitted to possess a firearm.
