Jacob Andrew Turner, a 24-year-old male from Austin, Texas, tragically died on February 23, 2022. His death was ruled a homicide by gunshot wounds. Turner was involved in a drug deal gone wrong at a Murphy gas station near 710 E. Ben White Blvd. During the transaction, Turner and the suspect, Sevon Herman Randle, 19, could not agree on a price for the pills.
Randle pulled out a handgun and shot Turner, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Randle was arrested and charged with capital murder. According to the arrest affidavit, Randle confessed to shooting Turner. He was found in possession of the handgun used in the shooting and had a history of prior arrests, including weapons charges and resisting arrest. Randle's bond was set at $1 million, and he remains in custody at Travis County Jail.
The investigation revealed that Turner had a history of opiate abuse, and the pills involved in the deal were suspected to be laced with fentanyl. Turner's body was found face-down with the pills scattered near him. Randle's friend, who was initially charged with the murder, later cooperated with authorities and identified Randle as the shooter.
In March 2023, Randle pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 35 years in prison. The case was investigated as Austin's 13th homicide of 2022.
Turner was remembered by his family and friends as a talented musician, artist, and loving father to his baby daughter. His death has left a significant impact on his loved ones and the community.
