On the evening of May 29, 2024, at approximately 8:40 p.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to reports of a shooting at the Avana SoCo Apartments, located at 401 Little Texas Lane in South Austin. Upon arrival, officers discovered 40-year-old Olvin Ponce-Aguilera with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite prompt medical assistance from Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services, Ponce-Aguilera was pronounced deceased at 9:50 p.m.
APD's Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists conducted a thorough investigation at the scene, interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. Preliminary findings indicated that Ponce-Aguilera was shot by a known suspect who fled the scene immediately after the incident. As of the latest available information, the suspect's identity has not been publicly disclosed, and no arrests have been reported in connection with the case.
