In the early morning hours of Monday, January 12, 2026, the life of 40-year-old Jorge Seferino Hernandez-Perez, a Hispanic male, was tragically cut short in Austin, Texas. The incident began to unfold at approximately 5:27 a.m. when Austin Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of South Meadows Drive after receiving a call about shots being fired in the residential neighborhood.
The caller reported hearing the sounds of a shooting directly across the street from their home.
Upon their arrival at the scene on South Meadows Drive, officers were unable to locate any individuals who had been involved in the reported shooting. Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists were called to the location to conduct a thorough investigation. They processed the scene and collected evidence, which included shell casings, indicating that a shooting had indeed occurred. A short time later, at approximately 6:08 a.m., a second call was made to Austin 9-1-1. This caller reported an unconscious and not breathing person at a different location, 9806 Middle Fiskville Road.
Emergency services responding to the second call discovered the body of a man who was later identified as Seferino Hernandez-Perez. It was determined that he was the victim of the earlier shooting incident on South Meadows Drive. The case is being investigated as the city's fifth homicide of 2026. As of now, authorities have not released any information regarding a possible suspect or suspects in the shooting death of Jorge Seferino Hernandez-Perez.
