On January 7, 2024, at approximately 4:46 a.m., a fatal incident occurred at Cowboys, a digital game room located at 9411 Parkfield Drive in North Austin. The Austin Police Department (APD) responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a disturbance involving several individuals and gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found two men unresponsive with gunshot wounds: 35-year-old security guard Deondre Flint and 46-year-old patron Jamie Davis. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation revealed that Davis and his girlfriend had been asked to leave the game room. As they exited, security personnel, including Flint, accompanied them into the parking lot. A physical altercation ensued between Davis's girlfriend and a female employee of the game room, escalating into a confrontation between Davis and the security staff. During this confrontation, Davis fatally shot Flint. In response, another security guard shot and killed Davis. A third individual, a woman, sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital.

The security employee who shot Davis cooperated fully with law enforcement during the investigation. After reviewing the case, the Travis County District Attorney's Office determined that the security guard's actions were justified, and no charges were filed. The APD continues to encourage anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.

This tragic event marked Austin's second and third homicides of 2024, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety and security in such establishments. The incident has prompted discussions among local business owners and residents regarding the operations of 24-hour game rooms and the measures in place to prevent such violent occurrences.
