In the spring of 1987, a simple walk down an Aurora street turned fatal for William Alonzo Jones. On May 10th, Jones was strolling along the sidewalk at the corner of 13th Avenue and Fulton Street, enjoying music from his boombox. His life was unexpectedly cut short in a sudden act of violence.
A vehicle, later described as a 1974 to 1976 Plymouth or Dodge, pulled up alongside him. Jones leaned into the car, and in that moment, a single gunshot to the chest ended his life.
The vehicle immediately fled the scene, leaving behind a senseless tragedy and a mystery that would endure for decades.
In the years that followed, the case of William Alonzo Jones grew cold. The suspect or suspects responsible for his murder were never identified, and no arrests have ever been made in connection with the shooting. The Aurora Police Department has periodically revisited the case, seeking new leads and answers in the nearly forty-year-old homicide, but justice for William Alonzo Jones remains elusive.
