On October 17, 2024, 24-year-old Darrell Keith Davis of Austin, Texas, was fatally shot during an attempted robbery at an apartment complex in the 2800 block of Wells Branch Parkway. First responders found Davis in a building breezeway, administered CPR, and resuscitated him, but he later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
The Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) identified two suspects in connection with Davis's death: 18-year-old Nathan Jamar Reed-Harper of Pflugerville
and an unnamed juvenile. Both have been charged with first-degree murder. Investigators believe the incident began as an attempted robbery involving individuals who were acquainted with each other.
According to an arrest affidavit, Reed-Harper had arranged to meet Davis to purchase an "AR pistol-style rifle." During the transaction, another individual approached, demanded the firearm, and shot Davis. Both suspects fled the scene with the weapon. Surveillance footage, witness interviews, and a phone left near the scene led law enforcement to identify Reed-Harper and the juvenile as suspects.
Reed-Harper was arrested and booked into the Travis County Jail on October 21, 2024, with bail set at $1 million. The juvenile suspect's details have not been released due to legal protections.
