Michael Atwood, 18, a Black male, was found with a gunshot wound inside an apartment at the Booker T. Washington complex on the 2600 block of Rosewood Avenue in East Austin on Friday, August 8, 2025. Officers were dispatched around 6:46 p.m.; despite efforts by first responders, he was pronounced dead at 7:08 p.m. The early police account described the shooting as an isolated incident, with indications that the victim and the shooter knew each other.
