In the daylight hours of April 11, 2019, Levar D.T. Mullen, a 20-year-old male, was fatally shot in a violent attack in Baltimore, Maryland. The incident, which occurred in the 2800 block of Parkwood Avenue, also left three other individuals wounded. Mullen was the only one to succumb to his injuries.
The investigation into the quadruple shooting led authorities to identify 26-year-old Donte Patterson as a suspect.
Surveillance footage from the area played a crucial role in his identification, showing a vehicle linked to Patterson arriving at the scene with multiple individuals who then carried out the shooting. Further investigation connected Patterson's vehicle to another crime scene the night before Mullen's death, where two other people were killed. This connection helped solidify the case against him. Patterson was apprehended on April 17, 2019, and his vehicle was seized. Evidence retrieved from his cell phone, including a video taken an hour before the murder, was also instrumental in the investigation.
Prosecutors suggested the shooting was a revenge killing. In October 2021, a Baltimore City jury found Donte Patterson guilty of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and use of a firearm in a crime of violence. In January 2022, he was sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 52 years for the murder of Levar Mullen and the non-fatal shootings of the other three victims. The judge stipulated that Patterson must serve at least 15 years of his life sentence without the possibility of parole.
