In the evening of April 8, 2026, a tragedy unfolded in Northeast Austin that cut short the life of 19-year-old Tyrell Robinson. Gunshots echoed through the Nova North Apartments on Dessau Road, prompting multiple calls to the police. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Robinson with a severe gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical intervention, he was pronounced dead at 7:13 p.m.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to the involvement of multiple
individuals. According to the Austin Police Department, five people were connected to the incident, a group that included three juveniles. Witnesses at the apartment complex reported hearing the gunshots and seeing Robinson fall to the ground. They were also able to provide a description of a person believed to be the shooter and the direction in which he fled. This information led officers to a man nearby who matched the description.
Authorities have since made arrests in connection with the fatal shooting. The individual apprehended near the scene was identified as 19-year-old Chance Young, who has been charged with second-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The ongoing investigation also led to the arrest of 17-year-old Drevon Slaughter on a related offense. While Young was released on a $15,000 bond, the charges against the three unnamed juveniles are still pending. Police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing and have encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
