In the evening hours of Sunday, January 11, 2026, the city of Austin was marked by its fourth homicide of the year. Cam Ron Perkins, a 23-year-old Black man, was fatally shot in North Austin. The incident occurred shortly before 8:00 p.m. in the 9400 block of Lamar Boulevard, near the intersection of Rundberg Lane, an area that would soon become the focal point of a homicide investigation.
