On January 22, 2022, Christopher Rivers, a 38-year-old male, was found deceased in a parking lot in North Austin, Texas. The incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. in the 7700 block of Burnet Road, near the intersection with West Anderson Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered Rivers and another individual, 28-year-old Nathan Limoge, both suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts, both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, authorities identified 31-year-old Yong Yoon Kim as a suspect. Kim contacted 911, claiming he had been involved in an altercation with Rivers and Limoge and had shot them in self-defense. However, multiple eyewitnesses provided accounts that contradicted Kim's version of events. Based on these testimonies and evidence collected, Kim was arrested and charged with capital murder for the deaths of Rivers and Limoge.
Following his arrest, Kim was held without bond in the Travis County Jail. The legal proceedings culminated on May 24, 2024, when a Travis County jury convicted Kim of two counts of murder. He received concurrent sentences of 50 years for the first count and 60 years for the second, to be served in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. This conviction provided a measure of justice for the families of Christopher Rivers and Nathan Limoge, bringing some closure to the tragic events of January 2022.
