In the late spring of 2025, the life of Daniela Lamont Tucker, a 36-year-old man from Spartanburg, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. On Saturday, May 17, 2025, Tucker was fatally shot while cutting grass at a home. This act of violence led to the arrest of four individuals, including two teenagers.
The investigation into Tucker's death quickly led authorities to Jamil 'J.P.' Bishop, who was taken into custody the following day.
Further investigation resulted in the arrests of Charles Edward Bishop, Jaquan Tyrese Brown, and a 15-year-old male. All four were charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Details that emerged during a bond hearing for Jamil Bishop painted a picture of a dispute that escalated with deadly consequences. It was revealed that earlier on the day of the shooting, Tucker had a verbal altercation with Bishop's wife. Upon learning of this, Bishop, accompanied by his brother Charles Bishop, his stepson, and two other minors, went to Tucker's home to confront him.
An argument ensued, and at some point, a 17-year-old who was with Tucker reportedly retrieved a firearm from inside the residence. As the confrontation intensified, shots were fired, and Tucker was struck. He was later pronounced dead at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. While Jamil Bishop’s attorney claimed that Tucker had pointed his weapon at the group, prosecutors stated there was no evidence to support this. It was also stated in court that the 15-year-old is believed to have fired the fatal shot. Following the shooting, the suspects fled the scene, with the exception of Jamil Bishop, who remained. The judge ultimately denied bond for Jamil Bishop.
