In the quiet afternoon of March 10, 2024, a dispute on Barnwell Road in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, tragically escalated, ending the life of 32-year-old Tyler Tanner. Tanner, a Black male, was found by Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office deputies lying beside a vehicle, having suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses recounted a verbal altercation between Tanner and another man, identified as 36-year-old Justin Enrikus Jackson.
After the initial confrontation was seemingly resolved and people began to leave, Jackson allegedly armed himself with a firearm and shot Tanner multiple times before fleeing the area.
In a surprising turn of events, Jackson himself contacted authorities, calling 911 to confess to the shooting. He then drove to the sheriff's office and surrendered. The weapon believed to have been used in the fatal shooting was recovered from his vehicle. Following his surrender, Jackson was arrested and faced charges of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. During the investigation, he chose to invoke his right to an attorney. The investigation into the shooting by the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office is ongoing.
