In the bright midday sun of a spring afternoon in the Bronx, chaos erupted in a place meant for childish laughter and play. On Friday, May 30, 2025, around 12:45 p.m., the sounds of six or seven gunshots echoed through the playground near East 173rd Street and Crotona Park, sending children and adults scrambling for safety. When the chaotic scene stilled, 21-year-old Irvin Provitt, a Black male, was found with a fatal gunshot wound to his head.
