In the Mount Eden section of the Bronx, on the night of December 5, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the evening calm, leaving a young life extinguished. Twenty-one-year-old Sergio Jimenez was fatally shot in what police have described as a targeted attack. The male victim was seated in his white BMW at the intersection of East 171st Street and Townsend Avenue when the violent encounter unfolded at approximately 10:16 PM.
An 18-year-old female passenger, who was with Jimenez at the
time, was also wounded in the brazen assault, sustaining injuries to her hand and back. She was transported to a local hospital in stable condition and was expected to survive. Jimenez, however, was struck in the head by the gunfire and was pronounced dead at BronxCare Health System.
Investigators believe the shooting was not a random act of violence. It has been suggested that the incident may have been connected to a long-standing dispute. Surveillance footage from the scene captured a black BMW sedan pulling up alongside Jimenez's parked car. Three masked individuals reportedly opened fire from within the vehicle, unleashing a barrage of bullets at Jimenez and his companion before speeding away westbound on East 172nd Street.
The New York City Police Department has been actively investigating the homicide and has appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspects. Despite the release of surveillance images of the suspects, who were described as males wearing dark-colored clothing, no arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shooting. The case remains an open investigation as authorities continue to seek justice for Sergio Jimenez.
