In the early morning hours of June 29, 2025, a party on Kincaid Road in Starkville, Mississippi, turned tragic, ending in the shooting deaths of 18-year-old Kaiden Evans and 21-year-old Jordan Mitchell. Reports of gunfire at approximately 2:30 a.m. brought deputies from the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office to the scene. Both Evans and Mitchell had sustained serious gunshot wounds and were rushed to OCH Regional Medical Center. Despite medical efforts, both young men succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led authorities to identify two brothers, Travis Chandler, 34, and Devon Chandler, 27, both of Starkville, as the primary suspects. Warrants for their arrest on charges of murder were promptly issued. The day after the shooting, on June 30, 2025, Travis and Devon Chandler turned themselves in to authorities at the Oktibbeha County Jail around 2:30 p.m. and were taken into custody.
The bodies of Kaiden Evans and Jordan Mitchell were sent to the state crime lab in Pearl for autopsies as the investigation continued. The Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office has indicated that the investigation remains active and that additional arrests are possible. Authorities have not yet released a motive for the shooting that cut short the lives of the two young men. Funeral services for Kaiden Evans were scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Beth-el MB Church in Starkville.
