In the early morning hours of July 21, 2017, the life of 23-year-old Austin Powell, a senior communication major at Mississippi State University, was tragically cut short in Starkville, Mississippi. Emergency responders were called to a residence on Maxwell Street in the Cotton District around 2 a.m. where they discovered Powell had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
