Austin Powell, a 23-year-old student at Mississippi State University, tragically died on July 21, 2017, in Starkville, Mississippi. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 2 a.m., when emergency responders were called to the scene. Powell had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt confirmed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound and initially stated that there were no signs of foul play.
