In the early morning hours of June 29, 2025, a party in the Blackjack community of Starkville, Mississippi, turned tragic, leaving two young men dead. One of the victims was 21-year-old Jordan Anthony Ray Mitchell. The incident, which sent shockwaves through the community, unfolded around 2:30 a.m. on Kincaid Road. Gunfire erupted during the gathering, and both Mitchell and 18-year-old Kaiden Evans sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency services transported both men to OCH Regional Medical Center, but they succumbed to their injuries shortly after arrival.
The Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office quickly launched an investigation into the double homicide. In the days following the shooting, authorities identified two brothers, Travis Chandler, 34, and Devon Chandler, 27, both of Starkville, as the primary suspects. Warrants were issued for their arrest on murder charges. On June 30, 2025, the Chandler brothers turned themselves in to authorities at the Oktibbeha County Jail. They are currently being held pending their initial court appearance.
