On September 9, 2023, at approximately 1:14 p.m., Pasadena Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Summit Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 35-year-old Pasadena resident Hakim Wright inside an apartment, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The primary suspect, identified as 65-year-old Marvin Wright, the victim's father, was found outside the apartment complex and detained
without incident. Detectives from the Pasadena Police Department's Robbery/Homicide Unit conducted a search of the premises, recovering three firearms. Investigations revealed that prior to the shooting, Marvin and Hakim were involved in a physical altercation.
On September 12, 2023, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed charges against Marvin Wright, including one count of murder (PC 187) and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm (PC 29800(a)(1)). His bail was set at $3 million. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and have urged anyone with additional information to contact the Pasadena Police Department or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
