On March 19, 2024, at approximately 10:23 AM, Pasadena Police Department officers responded to a "Shots Fired" call in the 900 block of North Hudson Avenue. Upon arrival, a witness identified an adult male in a nearby driveway as the shooter. Officers detained the suspect, 38-year-old Pasadena resident Christopher Thomas Harris, without incident.
Inside the associated residence, officers discovered 55-year-old Charles Johnson, unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot
wound. Paramedics from the Pasadena Fire Department administered life-saving measures before transporting Johnson to a hospital in grave condition. The incident reportedly stemmed from a family disturbance between relatives.
Detectives from the Pasadena Police Department's Robbery/Homicide Unit conducted a search of the residence, recovering multiple firearms. Harris was subsequently booked at the Pasadena Police Department Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide. However, on March 21, 2024, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office declined to file criminal charges, citing that Harris's self-defense claim could not be disproven beyond a reasonable doubt. Tragically, on the same day, Charles Johnson succumbed to his injuries.
