In the spring of 2021, a violent confrontation in Starkville, Mississippi, led to the death of 32-year-old Ernest D. Perkins Jr. The fatal incident unfolded on the afternoon of March 3, 2021, outside an apartment complex. Perkins engaged in a heated altercation with another man, Justin Vaughn, who was also 32. The dispute quickly escalated into a shootout, leaving both men with critical injuries.
