Tipton was a passenger in the backseat of the truck when he was allegedly shot by his friend, 22-year-old Gregory Daniel Miller of Hamilton, who was seated in the front. Following the gunshot, the driver pulled over to the side of the highway. As the driver and another passenger attempted to render aid to Tipton, Miller reportedly took control of the vehicle and fled the scene. The remaining friends immediately called 911 for help. Gabe Tipton was found deceased on the side of Highway 82. The Oktibbeha County coroner's office is investigating his death as a homicide, and his body was sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
