In the fall of 2019, the life of 31-year-old Antonio Johnson, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Oklahoma City. The events leading to his death unfolded on the evening of October 13th at the Drover's Inn Motel in the southeast part of the city. A dispute erupted over a prearranged prostitution deal, escalating into a violent confrontation that would ultimately claim Johnson's life.
That night, Oklahoma City Police were dispatched to the motel around 9:30 p.m.
following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Antonio Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound to his neck. He was immediately transported to Integris Southwest Medical Center for emergency medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Johnson succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The subsequent investigation into the homicide quickly identified two individuals of interest: Antonio Quinton Adair, then 36, and Julia Jones, then 29. According to the investigation, the fatal altercation stemmed from a disagreement over payment for a sex act that Johnson had arranged with Jones. A dispute over the amount of money exchanged led to Adair allegedly shooting Johnson.
Following the shooting, Adair and Jones fled the scene, prompting a multi-state manhunt. Their time as fugitives came to an end when they were located and apprehended in El Paso, Texas. The arrest was the result of a collaborative effort between the El Paso Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Unit, the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, Central Regional Command TAC officers, and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. Adair was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. Jones faced charges of accessory to murder and engaging in prostitution. Both were taken into custody and held at the Oklahoma County jail.
