On February 27, 2024, in Franklinville, North Carolina, 49-year-old Chatel Melissa Aikens was found deceased in her residence following reports of a gunshot. Responding to the emergency call, Randolph County Sheriff's deputies discovered Aikens inside the home and detained 54-year-old Roy Clay Williams at the scene.
Subsequent investigations led to Williams being charged with murder. He was held without bond and made his first court appearance on February 28, 2024.
