On February 27, 2024, in Franklinville, North Carolina, 49-year-old Chatel Melissa Aikens was found deceased in her residence following reports of a gunshot. Responding to the emergency call, Randolph County Sheriff's deputies discovered Aikens inside the home and detained 54-year-old Roy Clay Williams at the scene.
Subsequent investigations led to Williams being charged with murder. He was held without bond and made his first court appearance on February 28, 2024.
Aikens was a resident of Asheboro, North Carolina, and was employed at Dollar General in Ramseur. She is survived by her three children—Justin, Savannah, and Madison—and three grandchildren. A memorial service was held on March 12, 2024, at the Asheboro Church of God of Prophecy.
The Randolph County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Aikens' death. They have urged anyone with additional information to contact their Criminal Investigations Division.
