On the afternoon of August 19, 2025, a violent incident disrupted the Walnut Park East neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. Around 5:10 p.m., the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department received distress calls reporting a shooting near the intersection of West Florissant and Davison Avenue. Responding officers arrived to find a chaotic scene where a vehicle had careened off the roadway and crashed into a wall at the historic Calvary Cemetery.
Inside the wrecked car, authorities
discovered 26-year-old male Jerome Mason Jr., who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the prompt arrival of Emergency Medical Services, the injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash and subsequent investigation forced police to close a stretch of West Florissant Avenue for several hours as detectives canvassed the area for evidence and potential witnesses to the shooting that precipitated the collision.
Homicide detectives launched an investigation into the circumstances leading up to the gunfire, working to piece together the events that caused the vehicle to crash into the cemetery.
