The tragic death of Michael Maxon, a 22-year-old male from Castle Point, Missouri, unfolded on the evening of Sunday, June 8, 2025. The incident occurred in the Baden neighborhood of St. Louis, specifically in the parking lot of the Elite Supermarket located in the 8300 block of North Broadway. Shortly after 5:00 p.m., Maxon was sitting inside a vehicle accompanied by two other individuals, an 8-year-old girl and a 25-year-old man.
According to investigators, the violence erupted
following a disturbance when a suspect approached the vehicle and opened fire. Surveillance footage reviewed by law enforcement allegedly captured the assailant firing into the car before opening the door, dragging Maxon out of the vehicle, and shooting him again. Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene but were unable to save Maxon, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the location. The other occupants of the vehicle survived the attack; the young girl suffered a graze wound to her wrist, while the 25-year-old man was discovered a block away with a gunshot wound to his leg. Both survivors were transported to a hospital and listed in stable condition.
In the days following the shooting, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department made significant progress in the investigation. Authorities arrested 25-year-old Tavon L. Jackson in connection with the homicide. Prosecutors from the Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Jackson with first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and three counts of armed criminal action. Police allege that Jackson was the gunman seen in the surveillance video. Additionally, a second suspect, 28-year-old Darnell D. Westmoreland, was also charged in relation to the incident. Reports indicate that Westmoreland was present at the scene, standing near the corner of the supermarket and pointing a firearm at the vehicle while the shooting took place. Jackson was ordered to be held without bond as the legal proceedings commenced.
