In the early morning hours of October 1, 2025, the quiet of the Dutchtown neighborhood in Saint-Louis, Missouri, was broken by the sounds of gunfire and a collision. Around 5:00 a.m., officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a distress call near the intersection of Bingham Avenue and South 37th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a chaotic scene where a vehicle had crashed into a parked pickup truck.
Inside the wrecked car, authorities found 44-year-old Kenneth Edwards, a male resident of the city, suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response of emergency medical services, he was pronounced dead at the scene, marking a violent end to the encounter.
Homicide detectives quickly assumed control of the investigation, scouring the area for clues to piece together the events leading up to the crash. The scene was littered with evidence, as investigators placed at least two dozen markers on the ground, indicating a significant exchange of gunfire or a trail of evidence leading to the final resting place of the vehicle. Weeks later, the investigation led police to a person of interest identified as Demarco Moorehead. While looking into his potential connection to the death, officers discovered that the 34-year-old was illegally in possession of two firearms. This discovery was particularly significant because he was already on probation for a prior felony conviction involving the possession of a weapon. Authorities took him into custody, and he was ordered held without bond. Although police applied for additional charges specifically related to the deadly shooting, the Circuit Attorney's Office did not issue murder charges at that time, resulting in Moorehead facing two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm while the homicide investigation remained an active and open matter.
