Derek Harrison, a 50-year-old Black male, was found unresponsive just before dawn on Monday, September 8, 2025, along the 3200 block of Independence Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. Officers initially responded around 6 a.m. to a “medical nature unknown” call and discovered a man who had died at the scene. The following day, the Jackson County Medical Examiner determined he had been struck by gunfire, and on Wednesday police publicly identified the victim as Harrison.
