On June 22, 1985, Mark Wallace, a 27-year-old white male, sought refuge from a thunderstorm in the tool shed of Robert Berdella, a man he had previously assisted with yard work. Upon discovering Wallace, Berdella invited him into his home under the pretense of offering shelter.
