On the night of Wednesday, May 28, 2025, a violent confrontation unfolded in the Fairlane neighborhood of south Kansas City, Missouri, resulting in the loss of two lives. Police officers were dispatched shortly after 9:00 p.m. to a residence in the 9600 block of Fremont Avenue following reports of a disturbance that involved gunfire. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officials were directed to a driveway where they discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the victims were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
The victims were identified by authorities as 36-year-old Adriane E. Stanley and Black male Demetrius Davis, 35. Preliminary findings from the investigation indicated that the fatal shooting stemmed from a verbal argument involving several people that quickly escalated into a physical altercation. As the conflict intensified, shots were fired, striking both Davis and Stanley. Detectives and crime scene investigators canvassed the area for potential witnesses and surveillance footage to piece together the sequence of events that led to the double homicide.
As of late 2025, no suspects had been taken into custody in connection with the deaths. The Kansas City Police Department characterized the incident as a homicide and urged the public to come forward with any information. Despite the presence of multiple individuals during the initial argument, the case remained unsolved with no charges filed, and authorities continued to seek leads through the local TIPS Hotline to identify those responsible for the violence.
